What to expect at your first lesson?
Arrive, meet your instructor, take a tour of the barn, and discuss your goals. We will go over haltering, leading, brushing, and safety. If time permits, a short ride with balance exercises may occur. This will be a general evaluation of the student’s comfort around the horse and ensures all safety measures are learned *first*. Their first month of lessons will consist of learning balance on lunge line, basic steering, stop/go, emergency dismounts, and learning to clean and care for tack. Learning to ride is fun, but it comes with hard work! The first several lessons aren’t the “fun” stuff, but they do help you stay safe for when we learn that later on.
If you’re an experienced rider, expect to still go over basic with us. Every barn does things a bit differently and each horse rides a little differently. So, we start everyone from scratch. Those with experience just move through the process a little faster!
